Let’s get started! Please introduce yourself. What’s your name and your role here at ShowHeroes Group?

Hi, my name is Marina Gómez, and I’m the Global Product Marketing Manager at ShowHeroes.

What can women do to advance their careers faster and push for career growth? Why does it matter?

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. An internal promotion, a change of department, a salary increase, a training course, or an exchange within the company you work for. I think that many times we put obstacles in our own way, doubting whether or not we should do/ask for something, and over the years, you learn that it is good to have a “sponsor” or “ally” at the tables where decisions are made. However, you yourself must fight to get that job growth and find levers to help you carry it out.

How do you prioritize growth opportunities during your day-to-day? What are your best practices to steer or advance your career?

I set aside weekly time to read and review local and global information, keeping abreast of trends, changes in consumption, and the formation of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, which will enable me to increase benefits in my professional daily work.

I believe that the best practices for advancing in my career are a combination of continuous learning and strategic planning, as well as not being afraid to face new challenges. You don’t have the same interests and goals at 21 as you do at 30, so reviewing what you want to achieve in the short term and setting realistic and achievable goals is key.

We are often taught that growth and opportunities come with upward movement, and sometimes lateral movements bring us more learning and better results.

How do you approach periods of stagnation or slow growth in your career? What steps have you taken in the past?

First, recognize that it’s completely normal. Just like life has highs and lows, your professional journey is also cyclical. The first step is to determine whether the issue is related to your job, personal life, or the broader environment. Once you know the cause, you can look for solutions.

In my case, early in my career, while I was still figuring out what truly motivated me, I chose to leave a monotonous, low-challenge job and move to a completely different department in the same industry. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me discover a whole new area of work.

How did you figure out your strengths? And how do you keep developing them further?

Trying new things and not being afraid of challenges. I think we often confuse our strengths with doing our job well. You may be very good at doing a task, but that may not be one of your strengths, rather a side effect of it. A very clear indicator is how you feel when it comes to performing certain tasks and the ability you have compared to other people in your team or department when facing the same challenges.

In my case, having a mentor has allowed me to identify even more clearly what my strengths are and to leverage them with a mindset focused on strategic learning.
